How to stand out in 160 characters or less?

Twitter is not a new social media platform, however, if you are serious about business and value being up-to-date with current trends and latest news, then Twitter is where it's at ... it is what is happening now.
But where does Twitter fit in with your social media strategy?  How can you leverage this platform to raise your own profile, improve brand awareness and grow your business? You can start by writing a bio that stands out.

True to Twitter style, you have a limited number of characters (in fact only 160) to get your message across. This will make you think carefully about what it is you want to say, how you introduce yourself, your business and why people should follow you. This is often people's first encounter with you and your brand - and you want to be engaging and interesting from the very beginning.

Here are some of my tips on how to write a bio that will stand out:

Say hello!
Use your bio as an introduction to you and your business. Tell people a little bit about yourself and what you do. Share the benefits of your service or product and offer insight into what people can expect if they follow you.

Show personality
Don't be afraid to show your personality on Twitter, just make sure that it fits with the tone and personality of your service or product. So whether you are serious or witty, tech focused or socially conscious, make sure that the language and tone of your bio matches.

Say the right thing
Put your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) skills to use and be sure to include keywords in your Twitter bio. Every little bit helps, right?

Use the space wisely
As space is a premium use it wisely and  be sure to include the most important details first. If emojis suit your style of business you can include them in your bio as a means of getting your message across - please be careful of the emoji's you chose and do make sure that they suit your business tone.  If you need to include disclaimers, put them in at the end.

Include a call to action
Use your bio as a call to action. Do you want your followers to tweet including your brand specific hashtag, or visit your website - then let them know.

Don't over do it
Hashtags and Twitter go together like tea and biccies. But just don't over do it in the bio! It's recommended to include one or two but anymore than that and it look a little spammy and unprofessional.

Take a look at your Twitter bio, is it really the first impression you want?
