Let’s get to know Ashleigh better.

Where did the inspiration for Copper Square come from?

I love entrepreneurship! I wanted to use my marketing skills and knowledge to help other family-run or female-owned small businesses to connect with their customers and grow their businesses. I love connecting with people and really enjoy helping them to better understand how they can use social media to connect with their audience and tell their stories online.

As a mum, I started Copper Square to give me flexibility around my family commitments. I firmly stand by the mantra that family comes first and I wanted a career that would allow me to use my skills, experience and values to help other businesses and still afford me the time to be with my family.

How do you come up with social media ideas?

We start by looking at the questions we get asked the most at the workshops we deliver and those that come through to us in our emails and messages. We use our FAQ as a basis for educational content. We look at our events schedule and see what we have coming up that our audience needs to know about and we also consider relevant awareness days that are of interest. We always think of the customer first and write what our audience needs to know, not what we need to tell them.

What is your favourite social media platform and why?

Bebo! Jokes. But I am that old. I enjoy Instagram the most – I am a visually led person and so prefer good quality photographs and enjoy watching behind-the-scenes or how-to content on stories.

What could you give a 30-minute presentation about with no advanced preparation?

Strategy! It is so important and often a bit that business owners neglect jumping straight to tactics. It is one of the aspects of marketing that I am most passionate about. Without a clear strategy, you run the risk of having an expensive hobby rather than a business.

Tell us something we don’t know about you.

I was part of a local drama club and we won a NI competition in the early 1990s and got to perform at the National Theatre London. I had one line … but still! What an experience.

What are the essential skills for someone working in Operations to have?

You have to be able to multitask like your life depends on it (without running around like a headless chicken!). Operations involves looking after the daily running of the business, so being able to step back and see the bigger picture and how each of the different streams of work fits into that is really important. I think the most important skill in Ops (and probably in business in general!) is honesty. Being able to communicate with everyone involved with transparency and also knowing when to hold your hands up and ask for support.

What does ops management support look like at Copper Square?

At Copper Square, we offer full social media management as a service. A large part of my job is account management, liaising with those clients, communicating with our team of associates to create standout content, ensuring that the social content is available for clients to view on our software and running the monthly reports to review the stats to inform our decisions for the next month. It’s my job to have our combination of systems running smoothly to streamline and make our processes efficient whilst also providing a great experience for our clients.

What is the best thing about being part of the Copper Square team?

Collaboration. Copper Square really has a fantastic culture of fostering great partnerships with amazing associates in the industry. I get to work with incredible people who are amazing at what they do and are fun to be around, there are lots of laughs and creative minds to bounce ideas around with.

What is your favourite website/app/tool that you use daily in the business?

Canva! Where would we be without Canva, from social content to reports Canva is a powerhouse of a tool. We even offer training for canva to help clients get the most out of the app. The other tool that we love is HeyOrca! This is a fantastic social media scheduling tool that allows clients to view their upcoming content, chat with us directly on a piece of content for feedback/edits and use the built-in approval process to ensure they’re happy with everything that we’re producing for them. We use Google workspace for emails, calendars, document storage etc. It’s probably the only one I could say I 100% use every single day without fail.

What is your most used productivity hack?

Body doubling. No, we haven’t mastered cloning ourselves (yet!) Body doubling is when you work around another person/s who doesn’t have to be working on the same thing, in fact, you don’t even have to know them. Sometimes if I find I’m procrastinating and putting off a task I’ll head to my local Starbucks, pop my AirPods in and I can guarantee you I’ll get it done. There’s something about the presence of others around that helps me to focus. As a lot of us work remotely now, the change of scenery might work for you too. It might also have something to do with my fridge not being one room away!

At Copper Square, we believe that our people are our greatest asset. We are proud to have such a talented, creative and dedicated team, and we look forward to working with you to achieve your digital marketing goals.
